Luxor is splitted into two parts, west and east of the Nile. In the belief of the ancient Egyptians the western part was the area of the death, because here the sun goes down, means here the God Re went to the underworld every evening. Take a look at the spill på nett.

Luxor East Bank
The east part of the town is the main part. Here you will find a typical Egyptian city with plenty of traffic, many shops, people and bazaars. There are two museums, several European-standard supermarkets, plenty of restaurants and banks where you can withdraw cash at the ATM in the country’s currency “Egyptian Pounds” (EGP) with VISA card. To reach Luxor at the Eastside there is the international airport of Luxor and a central train station.
El Fairous is the heart of East Luxor. Here you find international hotels and a bigger hospital. Some tourists living here. It is a high level city part and very popular by the citizens of Luxor, it is near the Luxor court, pass port office and the Luxor Temple.
For everybody who likes it central and feels not disturb by the circumstances of a lively town el Fairous is a good choise.
The area of Karnak is in the north of East Luxor. Here you will find the worlds biggest tempel of Karnak, a part of the Unesco World Heritage Site.
Karnak, also in the past called “Theben” was the most important complex of temples of the ancient egypts. In the near you will find also the Luxor Museum, the hotels Hilton and Sofitel, the general hospital of Luxor. It is a more quiet location that lay in front of the Eastbank of the Nile.
Luxor West Bank
The western part of the town is builded of several smaller villages. If you like it more calm down and want to enjoy the real, unspoilt Egyptian life, then you are in good hands here. On the west side you will have a save and quiet time. People from all nations are living here long term. Here you will find the world famous Valley of the Kings, Queens and Nobles, the valey of the worker Der el Medina, the giant temples Medinet Habu, Ramesseum, Hatschepsut, Memnon and Sethi I and the old village builded by Amenophis II, more than 3400 years ago in the dynastie 18.

El Gezira means “the island” and is the “entry” of the West Bank. It is located directly in front of the public ferry, by which you can cross the Nile in a rhythm of 10 to 15 minutes. The crossing you get for 1 EGP one way and it takes 4 minutes. You also find here a lot of private boats which cross the Nile without any waiting period for round about 25 EGP one way. By a small extra fee these boats bring you also in front of the Karnak Temple.
For shopping in el Gezira you find many little supermarkets, pharmacies, original egyptian restaurants and much more.
El Ramla (“the sand”) is a new region, arround 20 years that is exspecially create for tourism. Even this, you will find a typically egyptian atmosphere with a very nice, quiet architecture. El Ramla is directly beside El Gezira and by this all amenities are nearby. The ferry and the boats you can reach by 4 to 7 minutes walking, there are a lot of supermarkets and restaurants and in the Hotel El Gezira Garden you can use by a little fee the nice swimming pool. From here you also can quick make a trip with a boat to banana island with an amazing nature. Nearly any property in el Ramla has a beautiful view on the nile and a lot of them have a shared roof terrace for enjoying sunsets or sun baths.
El Gorf means “the hill”. It is a little bit higher from the Nile than el Ramla and perfect for people who search for a quiet location. The renting of bicycles can be supported by us and with such you can reach the ferry in round about 10 to 15 minutes. There are also possibilities to take a car or a “Tuk Tuk” if you like to be motorized.
In el Gorf theire are a range of properties worthy of note. Also the prices there are mostly less expensive. Don´t be in worry of to organize your daily stuff, we can easy organize a shopping and transport service for a small fee.
El Azpa is a small village between el Gorf and the area of Medinet Habu. It means “the tent” because in the times before the highdamm of Nasser Lake, when the water of the Nile goes back after flood in this area the farmers stayed in tents to take care for the livestock. El Azpa is upside from touristic areas. Here you can go if you like to discover untouched Egyptian life.
In the near of Azpa is the hospital el Bairat, the temple of Medinet Habu and the mainroad from Aswan to Cairo.
El Tod is on the half way between the Nile and the area of the tombs of Valley of Queens, Nobles and Kings. It is very close to El Qurna and not far away from the colossus of Memnon. In el Tod are some schools and you can reach a lot of small supermarkets and shops by 5 minutes walking.
If you want a location from which you can reach easy the Nile as the western desert monuments, el Tod is a good choise.
Memnon is the entry of the monument area in the western desert of Luxor. Die history of the given name is long and complicated to explain. Memnon was originally a God of Greece and the connection to this God was reasoned by the fact, that one of the huge statues you can find here in the very past was half destroyed and gave by the beginning heat of the day each morning a sound, that remarks on the crying of Memnon. All important temples and tombs are quiet near and you can watch the archaeological excavation of the temple Amonophis III. Some smaller shoping areas with local supermarkets are not far also and you have an amazing view on the thebanic mountains.
The giant giant egyptian temple Medinet Habu, buildet by Ramses III round about 3200 years ago gave this area its name. The temple have a size of 7000 m² and is in a well condition. Because Medinet Habu is a famous touristic attraction, in front of the temple you find several stores and also a lot of cafes to relax. Beside the area of Memnon Medinet Habu is the second entry to the western desert monuments of Luxor. If you are intereseted in archeology, this is a good place for you.
